“Everything was perfectly healthy and normal here in Denial Land.”
― Jim Butcher
The Outdoor Recreation Industry (ORI) is globally recognised as a growth industry and substantial contributor to economic growth, employment and human development.
We would like to introduce an exciting new initiative! The newly launched Adventure Institute is the first training initiative that addresses the critical needs and gaps faced in the Outdoor Industry in Southern Africa. It is the first training and development agency offering customised learning programmes that combine deep industry knowledge with national and international academic input. Their offerings involve a blended training approach (online and contact), self-paced, certified & accredited certificates that address critical outdoor industry knowledge areas.
Graduates can pursue an engaging and exciting career in the multi-disciplinary Outdoor Industry. A career path that may include manufacturing, design, logistics, marketing, retail, wholesale, education, ministry, hospitality and tourism.
Do you miss the past world of work? What do the data tell us about the “old” normal?
The Gallup survey (2016) revealed that only 9% of the South African workforce were actively engaged, and 45% were actively disengaged from their workplace. In the United States (US), only 32% of employees are actively engaged in their work (Ariani 2013). The cost to the economy of this reality is staggering.
Mental health issues in society have reached a critical point. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, one in four Americans has a mental or substance use disorder.
The National Center for Health Statistics noted a suicide rate increase of 35% between 1999 and 2018. Suicide is now the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. Internationally, health budgets are being placed under severe strain due to the negative health consequences of obesity and inactivity. South Africa is, unfortunately, following closely in all these negative trends.
We believe there is a new workplace revolution where people strive for healthier workplaces and follow more meaningful careers. Careers in which they are more engaged and contribute positively to society. For many, this career can be found in the Outdoor Industry!
