Curriculum

Students completing this qualification will be adding an additional NQF Level 4 or NQF Level 5 qualification to their itinerary. Students will also be able to get recognition for qualifications done prior. This qualification allows students to be regarded as industry experts with a recognised footprint in a specific field.
Students have a choice of one of the below compulsory listed certificates:

1. National Certificate: Generic Management NQF 5 SAQA ID 29201

First-line managers may include team leaders, supervisors, junior managers, section heads and foremen. The focus of this qualification is to enable learners to develop competence in a range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.

A person acquiring this qualification will be able to manage first-line managers in an organisational entity. First-line managers may include team leaders, supervisors, junior managers, section heads and foremen. 2. Further Education and Training Certificate: New Venture Creation NQF 4 – SAQA ID 66249

The purpose of the Qualification is to develop the appropriate skills and knowledge required by a person for the establishment and development of a small to medium business venture and address the economic, administrative and behavioural (psycho-social) barriers that contribute to success in starting and sustaining the venture.

This qualification is intended for persons who wish to start, operate, manage and grow a new small to medium business venture. Learners attempting this qualification will be equipped with a variety of technical, business managerial and personal skills and strategies to help them succeed in the creation and sustenance of a business. The successful learner will develop a sound foundation for the application of these skills and knowledge to explore a diverse range of entrepreneurial opportunities.

3. National Certificate: Occupationally Directed Education Training and Development Practices NQF 5 – SAQA ID 50334

This qualification will provide practitioners with the general ETD skills required at NQF level 5 across five key ETD roles, with the opportunity to specialise further in one of the following four roles: Design and develop learning interventions, Facilitate learning, Design and conduct assessments, Facilitate skills development.

This qualification is intended for persons who wish to start, operate, manage and grow a new small to medium business venture. 4. Further Education and Training Certificate: Tourist Guiding NQF 4 – SAQA ID 71549

In the context of the tourist guiding industry, this qualification will enable a learner to acquire the knowledge skills and values that will enable them to organise and facilitate creative and innovative guiding experiences in their area of specialisation. A qualifying learner will be able to plan and implement safe tourist guiding experiences, and as such, contribute to tourism and the tourist guiding industry itself.

This qualification is a step in a planned learning pathway that underpins a career in Tourist Guiding and will enhance career path progression within the Tourist Guiding industry as it addresses the skills and competencies enabling the qualifying and registration as a Tourist Guide to access employment opportunities in the industry and tourist guiding sector in South Africa.

The registered Tourist guide is both an ambassador for the country and the provider of a business service, and the purpose of the qualification is to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, values and qualities to successfully fulfil these roles.

5. National Certificate: Environmental management NQF5  – SAQA ID 66789

The National Certificate: Environmental Management at NQF Level 5 is designed to meet the needs of those learners who wish to become environmental officers working under the supervision of a senior environmental officer or an environmental manager. Currently, there are no national qualifications for these learners at this level. This will be the first national qualification in the higher education band that will constitute the initial step for these learners towards becoming environmental managers.

This Qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be, involved as an officer in the environmental management sector especially in the fields of environmental science, environmental management and waste management. While the focus of this Qualification is on the fields mentioned above, it is possible that other services or aspects could also be included in the qualification. The Qualification contains all the competencies, skills and values required by a learner who may wish to access a higher qualification within the environment sector.

Time: 12 Months. 4 to 6 Weeks to gather practical hours.

Process: Online and contact class followed by gathering of practical hours.

Both courses below are compulsory:

1. Introduction to Academic Research and Publication

Students will be taught how to identify industry challenges, conduct basic research, apply data to industry recommendations and write a suitable article to publish findings.  

 Mode: Students will be receiving theory classes that are followed by practical research and writing workshop sessions

 Time: One week

 Process: After students wrote a theoretical exam they will be required to do research and publish findings and apply findings in a community setting

 Assessment: Theoretical assessment, research project, publication, community project

2. Practical application, integration, assessment

During this module, students will integrate and cross-reference all modules whilst transferring the knowledge to practical real-life situations. Students will simulate real-life situations and apply the learning of one discipline to another. Students will be able to first-hand experience the combination of skills which up to now have only been dealt with as loose standing knowledge areas.

What can I expect after completing the course?

Recognition by the Outdoor and Adventure Industry as equipped with diverse relevant skills. Your skills will allow you to work in other related industries also. After completing the qualification you will have access to resources and support due to your affiliations, you will have access to practice and business coaching and support, you will have automatic access (some free, some at a small cost) to workshops and initiatives run by the Adventure Institute and affiliates.

Upon graduation
These qualifications present focussed and specific applications to the Outdoor and Adventure field. Each certificate will allow students to be more effective and focused as Managers, Practitioners, Entrepreneurs or Trainers.

You need to have successfully completed the  Outdoor & Adventure Professional L2.

Transport
Transport to the course location is at your own cost. Transport at campuses between activities is arranged by the institute.
